Travelguru Announces $15 Million Investment From Battery Ventures, Sequoia Capital India
It’s official. Battery Ventures and Sequoia Capital India have invested $15 million in online travel company Travelguru. This is the second round of funding for Travelguru. The company had earlier this year received $10 million funding Sequoia Capital India (This was to be invested in multiple tranches, and it’s not clear if Sequoia has invested it entirely).
As for Battery, this is the first investment for them in the Indian consumer internet space.
Says Mark Sherman, General Partner, Battery Ventures, “We are very happy to announce our first major investment in the consumer internet space in India with Travelguru. Given our experience in technology in general and consumer internet specifically, we selectively look for companies with a few key ingredients: companies that address large markets, have very strong leadership, and have shown they can deliver innovative offerings as well as execute on sales and marketing.”
Other online travel companies have/are going in for second round of funding. MakeMyTrip is close to announcing its follow-on funding of $10-12 million from Helion Venture Partners, Sierra Ventures and SAIF Partners. ClearTrip will also raise about $10 million early next year.
