Reliance Communications To Offer Yahoo Instant Messenger To Subscribers

Instant messengers on the mobile are in vogue; just days after the GSM industry in India soft launched their instant messenger, DNA reports that Reliance Communications has tied up with Yahoo India for its instant messenger. The messenger allows users to chat with other using the IM on the mobile or the Internet; it also allows them to chat in groups or receive messages via SMS when offline (which the Yahoo IM on the Internet does anyway).
The story doesn’t mention the cost of using the IM, though. I think it’s pertinent to mention here that during his talk on trends in digital media at the IAMAI Digital Summit today, Jeffery Cole, Director of the Center for the Digital Future mentioned that according to their research, users in the 12-24 age group use mostly instant messengers and feel that email is, well, mostly used by old people. The mobile half of the conference is tomorrow…
