Rajesh Sawhney, President Of Reliance Entertainment On BIG FM Online, Gaming And Music On Demand

I spoke briefly to Rajesh Sawhney, President of Reliance Entertainment, about their plans for digital content:

On Gaming: Gaming is a whole new category of entertainment. It will be bigger in India than Bollywood and music. India is today in a situation similar to what China was in 2001. We want to be India’s biggest gaming destination and will be investing $100 million over the next 3 years. We’re getting more than 20,000 new users signing up every day, but there is a need to localize content. Advertising and marketing gaming is a small part of it – you have to have a great product, and support it via alliances with Cricket and Bollywood and localization of content. And and ecosystem has to be put in place.
On BIG FM’s Online Radio Plans: It will definitely happen at some point in time, but I can’t give a timeline for it. We are very bullish on the digital space and believe that we are best suited to launch BIG FM in this domain. We already have other businesses in this medium and know it well.
On Music On Demand: That is the future and it cannot be ruled out.

He wouldn’t specify a timeline for music on demand, or even verify if it is in the works. Pure speculation, perhaps, but the word on the street is that something on those lines is in the works…In case of music, there would be synergy between an online business (something on the lines of Soundbuzz) and Reliance ADA Group’s telecom business.
