NDTV Media To Sell Advertising For Star’s Indya.com For Cricket World Cup

This is interesting. Star Network has appointed NDTV Media, the advertising sales company of NDTV, to sell advertising space of its portal Indya.com for the Cricket World Cup event, reports Business Standard. Why I find it interesting is NTV Media is headed by Raj Nayak, who was earlier the ad sales head for Star in India, and had fallen apart with the Rupert Murdoch company. The split was very muddy with Star dragging Nayak to court probably for joining competitor NDTV.
Coming back to the news, Star’s Indya.com is the global official internet partner for the World Cup. It has also created a website www.cricketworldcup.com.
Star Network is believed to be expecting nearly 5 billion hits (how about page views?) on cricketworldcup.com.
As for NDTV Media, it already sells ads for MSN India, and it picks up third party ad sales contracts.

Actually, the story goes like this: Star has aquired the global online rights for two of the biggest ICC events - ICC Champions Trophy and the Cricket World Cup.  Star’s indya.com powered the successful http://www.iccchampionstrophy.com website which delivered over 1.1bn hits and over 230mn pageviews. Star believes that the cricket world cup would be 5 times more in sheer hype, number of matches, duration and hence the traffic. With the success of http://www.iccchampionstrophy.com behind them, both Raj Nayak’s NDTV Media and Star seems to be confident of building a strong advertisement platform.
