Nautanki.tv To Showcase Content From the Indian Documentary Producers Association

Nautanki.tv, an online TV channel has tied up with the Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA) to showcase documentaries, short films and animation. They shall begin showcasing the content from the 10th of February onwards, and intend to allow viewers to vote for their favourites. Nautanki.tv shall also webcast the IDPA awards, a ‘nautanki.tv viewers choice’ award shall also be given. They’ll monetize the content by showing video ads before and after the films.
There must be other associations, particularly regional associations with video footage and content that can be webcast. What about the content owned by the FTII in Pune? So far, we’ve seen video content on sale, for subscription, advertising funded webcasts, and content for syndication to broadcasters. Anything else?

  • Hey Content Buff,

While I agree with you that cricket and bollywood sells please do remember that it is available in all formats all over the place. Docus and indie films do not have that problem. Our content plan has indie films as about 10% share with the rest being created, produced or sourced by us.

As far as being marginal is concerned, we heard that argument about many things in the past. So lets see.

    Sunil,
All this is great. But the fact is bollywood sells, while docus and indie films sell less. If your idea is to become a marginal content player, then the idea looks good.
But if the idea is to become a mainstream content company, then bollywood and cricket have to be there.
    What say?

  • nautanki.tv is in talks with several such organisations to be able to provide a way to get their content to the audiences across India and to Indians abroad.  Many indie film makers have also tied up to create content for nautanki.tv. The belief is that there is more to life than Bollywood and TV and there are many of us who want the kind of content that gets never past the distribution chain.

Hopefully we will also be able to create an ecosystem that will sustain and give this indie film making community revenues.
