I-Mode To Launch in India Through Hutchison Essar

NTT DoCoMo is to launch is mobile content/applications/Internet service i-Mode in India by next year, through a tie-up with Hutchison Essar, the companies announced Friday. DoCoMo will license the technologies and know-how needed for Hutch to offer i-mode on GSM, GPRS and W-CDMA networks.
The i-mode service, which has never been able to replicate the success that it had in Japan, is available in 16 countries/regions of Asia-Pacific and Europe. Preparations are also underway to launch i-mode in Hong Kong, Macao and the Philippines. Some more details here.
