Ebay Classifieds Portal Kijiji Launched In India; Listings In Hindi And Tamil, For Rural Districts

Ebay has launched an India-focused version of its classifieds website Kijiji, reports exchange4media. Jiby Thomas, Head, Kijiji India says that relying on word-of-mouth to promote kijiji for now, and are only relying on online direct mailers, user recommendations and banner adverts. The site has google ads, but only at the bottom of the page.
What’s so special about Kijiji? Well, they have a ‘Rural Marketplace’ classifieds listing, with listings in local languages - in Hindi and Tamil - though the sellers are still using English to describe the products, so that negates the local language advantage to some extent.
I just wonder if they could have chosen more Indian a name instead of going ahead with the global branding…maybe the baazee.com url could have been used? I quite liked is the idea of having RSS feeds for city specific categories of classifieds categories, which could be a differentiator among urban consumers.  No cross website promotion at eBay.in yet.
