BBC News is attempting to collect user generated content (UGC) via launched a mobile photo contest for South Asia, with the theme - ‘My Changing World’. [Source: release at Agencyfaqs]
According to the terms and conditions: BBC news will get a “royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to publish and otherwise use the material in any way that we want, and in any media worldwide.” How many people read terms and conditions before signing up or submitting their content? Take a look at the Intellectual Property Rights and User Submissions terms at YouTube.
The prizes for the BBC contest include an iPod Video, a Digital Camera and a Worldspace Satellite radio. Some (not all) of the user-submitted images will be showcased on the BBC News website and that, I guess, will be a bigger prize for most people - the exclusivity of it all. The contest closes on 31st March, and images need to be emailed or MMSed.
