YouTube Down For Two Hours After Pakistan Blockade

[by Cerius Shah] As a result of the Pakistan’s Telecommunications Authority’s (PTA) ban on Youtube there was a worldwide outage of the video sharing behemoth for around 2 hours. Pakistan Telecom apparently gave the order to the 70 ISP’s operating in the country. Multiple reports blame it on a mistake by an engineer at Pakistan telecom or a more vicious claim of IP hijacking by the telco. Reports are that Pakistan blocked the website because of content deemed offensive to Islam, which again vary from hosting Dutch cartoon’s to the trailer of a forthcoming movie.

We have previously covered Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Grief on the occasion of the blanket blog platform bans and cries for Orkut’s blood. Youtube has a history of being banned. On a Cerius note, next time something offends you, here is an option: Close the window (its that little x top right)
