Virgin Group Eyes Indian Media Space; To Announce Mobile Venture Next Month

The Virgin Group’s entry into the Indian Telecom market is expected to be announced next month, reportedly a joint venture with Tata Teleservices. Now the Economic Times reports that Virgin is in talks with an Indian media house which has presence in Film Production, TV, Music and Animation. The deal will apparently take a 2-3 months to finalize, and Branson has not mentioned the name of the prospective partner. Off the top of my head, two companies appear to fit that profile: Reliance owned Adlabs and UTV Software. There’s also Miditech which has recently announced a JV with Turner, but they’re not in the music space (yet). UTV recently launched a music label - UTV Music, and UTV Motion Pictures is making a film for Virgin Comics.
