Travelocity India More Bullish About Hotel Bookings

Travelocity is high on hotels booking in India rather than airline ticketing like other travel portals. Scott Blume, president for Asia Pacific and ZUJI CEO, has been quoted as saying by Express TravelWorld: “The focus on real-time local and international hotel reservations marks a strategic differentiator for Travelocity versus many other online travel agencies in India.”
Ditto Himanshu Singh, managing director of Travelocity India, who said, “We have already processed many bookings from eager travellers showing that Indians are very ready, willing and able to make real-time hotel bookings online with Travelocity India.” The company also offers users the ability to do calendar shopping of live inventory and rates.
As Indian travel portals are trying to shore up their revenues by increasing the hotel booking pie, Travelocity has launched with a “hotel first” strategy.

Travelocity is not in town to play the market share game like most of these other OTA’s. Travelocity wants a footprint in India, but do not want to bleed by focusing just on air where the actual revenues (not gross Bookigs) are rather small. They can make a decent % off the booking dollars selling Hotel inventory, with packages as a natural future extension. The phenomenon of Indian consumers looking beyond Air was also recently confirmed by the online publisher Tripmela.com. I can’t remember the press release but tripmela released some data where they saw increased activity in the vacation packages and hotels. so Indian consumers are definitely ready to embrace more complicated online travel purchases.
