Shemaroo Entertainment has entered into a five year agreement with Goldstone Technologies, licensing over 500 Hindi movies, regional films and also non movie content, reports Equity Bulls. Shemaroo will promote and manage content on Goldstone’s Video on Demand (VoD) service, including repurposing, format conversion and packaging. Goldstone intends to launch a movie rental service, internationally and in India, and also on IPTV. Goldstone intends to distribute Shemaroo’s content and also signed up Indian TV channels, including 11 channels from Zee, India TV, Aastha TV, B4U movies and music, among others.

So is this a good time to be a content owner? Several distribution channels seem to emerging across media. However, is this a good time to launch a movie rental business? Sources have told us that Madhouse’s sale to SeventyMM, was a distress sale. When you’ve got large players like Reliance and Nimbus looking to enter this space - can you really compete with them?
