Plagiarism By MSN India’s Content Partner

Content from a post by Melanie Phung on the “10 Years of Viagra Spam” was allegedly plagiarised by MSN India’s content partner India Syndicate, by “Aditya Mehta”. Phung has a screencap here, and MSN India has since removed the content. The link now leads to, ironically, a post titled “Music makes kids calmer”. Last year, a sub-editor from Webdunia, Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) India’s Malayalam content provider had plagiarized receipes, and Yahoo, which syndicated the content.

Kamla Bhatt, via whose blog I found out about this, contacted Krishna Prasad, Executive Editor of MSN India. Prasad says that their contract with vendors mentions plagiarism, and the company will look at ways to make sure this doesn’t happen again. More here.

So two questions for all the content providers reading this:
—What kind of checks would you put in to ensure that content the content on your website isn’t plagiarized?
—What’s the penalty that you would impose on an erring syndication partner?
