Sanjay Trehan, CEO of NDTV Convergence views Web18 as competition, but not many others. He tells Agencyfaqs in an interview that the print media companies are disadvantaged on the Internet in a Web 2.0 environment, where Video is a dominant. He doesn’t think Indiatimes and Rediff will pose a threat. NDTV is planning to launch a full service mobile portal, expecting GPRS usage to increase. They’ll also allow users to submit content via short code. They’re looking at a minimalist, functional portal with news, entertainment, as well as mobile search and commerce. On the web, NDTV is planning to launch portals related to lifestyle, entertainment, and in Hindi, as well as a US edition. Read the entire interview here.

Well, NDTVs so far been a company that’s leveraged its brand more than its content - with multiple white-labeled sites. However, it isn’t just about putting your (original) content on the web - there will have to be sufficient interactivity to drive that stickiness that everyone is hankering after. The Hindi portal sounds most promising, if you ask me.
