NDTV Launches Hindi Portal - NDTVkhabar.com
NDTV has launched a Hindi language portal - NDTVKhabar.com. The ABC of content (Astrology, Bollywood and Cricket) have been given due importance; There is news (national, international, business and sports. There’s also a slightly unusual segment in the mix: tension mat le yaar incorporates both humour and a helpline. There are blogs (yes, there are blogs), but just one post. Incidentally, Ravish Kumar, an NDTV journalist, also blogs in Hindi at Nai Sadak...though NDTV appears to be focused more on getting readers to blog, rather than their own journalists. What’s your take on that approach? I feel that quality of content might suffer, like it did with NDTVblogs.com.
Other interactive elements are fairly standard: a message board, and a space where users can upload their stories. The advertising on the site is in English, though. I tried Hindi search (keyword - cricket), but it didn’t work…though in their defense, the site is currently in beta. NDTVkhabar uses the MitraOpen font.
Given the paucity of local language portals, it’s good to see more media companies launching such sites. Web18 has Josh18.com. Recently, Business Standard had launched its own business news website to complement its Hindi newspaper. We’d done a story on the issues of the Hindi Blogosphere earlier.

I am not really sure about the success of generic hindi portals as most of the users browsing are quite comfortable in English and unless a hindi portal provides some unique services and differentiate itself or some how attract “Hindi Lovers” it is no different from a similar Portal in english.

for ndtv…it has to have a Hindi website, along with their Hindi Channel, but I dont think they are expecting big traffic and rev. no. from this site. News sites are popular with NRIs and most of them get variety of content but this Hindi site with Videos will surely be ready reckoner.

Another feather in the Hindi cap though it scares me to see the news organizations such as NDTV, which on one hand are so aggressively running their own Tech shows on the most advanced technologies, manage to live in a monolithic age. Still having a “Jyotish” column? And, AFAIK, the site decided to stick to a Dynamic TTF instead of Unicode, I wonder if they know anything about Google either :) The portal seems to have been developed by http://vpf.vishwak.com.

Video section of the site dont work most of times….plus there are lot of mistakes with Hindi words ....cant expect such things from NDTV…

vinod dua aur pronoyke nirdeshan main NDtv ne hamesha naye aayaam chuye hain .aap log mbeshak angregi main sochte ho magar kaam dindi main karte ho yeh sarahniya hai .t v par jis tarah debate karvaate hain usi tarah i9s portal par bhi thora bahut ho jaye.excuse me. sir Apke hindi portal main bhi english main hi likhnaa par rahaa hai .koyi baat nahin aapko dekhte dekhte hum bhi sudhar jayenge .
