MySpace India in Beta; Channel V Contest; Hires Director Of Marketing And Content From Yash Raj

We should have picked this up sooner, but anyway: I just noticed that MySpace India has been launched, and is currently in Beta. They appear to be taking the music route to acquiring registrations: they’ve tied up with Channel [V], and are hosting the Channel [V] Campus Star contest (blog), videos for which have been hosted on MySpace. Apparently (going by some of the comments on the site), the contest has been promoted on TV, and I find it surprising that Channel [V] didn’t host the contest on its own site. Doesn’t matter, though - they’re both owned by News Corp (NYSE: NWS). Continuing with the music focus, MySpace has also created a showcase for local bands - it’s currently featuring Delhi based “Jalebi Cartel

MySpace also has an India specific page called IndiHub, which looks a little cluttered. There had been reports earlier of MySpace’s Bollywood focus: Businessofcinema.com reports that they’ve appointed Tarun Tripathi as Director of Marketing and Content; Tripathi joins from Yash Raj Films, a Bollywood producer, where he was Head of Marketing. He will report to MySpace VP (Asia) Sung Lee. Tripathi is working out of News Corp’s Star India’s office for now.
