MySpace India in Beta; Channel V Contest; Hires Director Of Marketing And Content From Yash Raj

We should have picked this up sooner, but anyway: I just noticed that MySpace India has been launched, and is currently in Beta. They appear to be taking the music route to acquiring registrations: they’ve tied up with Channel [V], and are hosting the Channel [V] Campus Star contest (blog), videos for which have been hosted on MySpace. Apparently (going by some of the comments on the site), the contest has been promoted on TV, and I find it surprising that Channel [V] didn’t host the contest on its own site. Doesn’t matter, though - they’re both owned by News Corp (NYSE: NWS). Continuing with the music focus, MySpace has also created a showcase for local bands - it’s currently featuring Delhi based “Jalebi Cartel

MySpace also has an India specific page called IndiHub, which looks a little cluttered. There had been reports earlier of MySpace’s Bollywood focus: Businessofcinema.com reports that they’ve appointed Tarun Tripathi as Director of Marketing and Content; Tripathi joins from Yash Raj Films, a Bollywood producer, where he was Head of Marketing. He will report to MySpace VP (Asia) Sung Lee. Tripathi is working out of News Corp’s Star India’s office for now.

Even though you picked it late, I see MySpace anyways lacks in steam. Though MySpace worldwide has the largest fan following, with the g;e increase in website visitors on Facebook taking over MySpace, its becoming more obvious, that Yahoo / MSN should look at revamping their social networking concept.
Just an expamle in place, Yahoo had Games like word twist which they couldn’t popularize enough and simialr game in Facebook ie Bogglific has a higher play stats already.
