MTNL Delhi To Lauch Application For Multi Lingual SMS

MTNL’s Delhi intends to launch a mobile application that will allow customers to send SMS’ in 11 Indian languages, reports Sify. The application, called Sarv Bhasha Sandeshwhich would enable its customers to send SMSes in 11 Indian languages, supports Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, and Punjabi. The opportunity here appears to an increase in SMS traffic for the government owned telco - it’s expecting a jump of 10 percent in number of SMS’ sent…the problem is - how are they going to get users to download the application? No details of the cost of the application are mentioned in the story, though the postpaid customers will be charged Re.1, while prepaid will be charged Rs. 2 per SMS
