Mobile Marketing Association Charter In The Works For India

Companies such as Mobile2win and Hungama Mobile are lobbying to form the Indian chapter of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), a U.S.-based non-profit group that promotes mobile marketing. [via agencyfaqs] Mobile value added services providers are hoping that the MMA will spur regulations in favor of them. VAS providers consider current revenue sharing agreements with operators to be in favor of telecom companies.

MMA has more than 450 members worldwide, of which only two are Indian companies – Reliance Communications and Mobile2win.

  • Agree with all of you, this is the right time to set up MMA in India, where action in mobile marketing is picking up so fast

  • Its a good idea to launch a MMA - India forum.  Mobile worx is a leading mobile advertisement firm based in Chennai.

MMA will act in providing Guidelines for mobile advertising and marketing. Its wont be fighting with operators for the VAS player. More like IAB.net for the internet advertisers.

  • I agree to Mobstir ,

with all due respect to intent of Mobile2 Win i would like to say that most of the time these association turns into a networking platform where people come and swap Biz cards

still , good luck for their initiative

if anything we have too many committees already. We have the CII Mobile VAS Committee, we have the IAMAI, I think we have something at the FICCI as well.

The challenges lie elsewhere - the fact is that there are a bunch 8 - 10 of 800 pound gorrilas who represent anything between 2 million to 40 million customers and market value of over a 100Billion. Then you have flies…about 500 of them with a market cap of 0.5 to 100 million, each trying to eat what is in the gorillas hand. Guess who is going to win.

The second fact is that the flies are happy to unseat the other flys to get at the food, remember they arent bees or army ants but flies…

The solution lies in either getting together and organising ... doesnt need a new forum or committee ... being able to push the gorilla or the other way is that let there be so many flies that the gorilla gives up in disgust and moves away.

Wonder which its going to be…..

  • MMA has been an effective podium for Mobile Marketing agencies. The result has been a very healthy industry around it in US.

I hope they are able to identify and address the India specific requirements.

  • More than that, I think one needs to have a VAS body - not just for mobile marketing - similar to the IAMAI, which doesn't seem to have much of a mobile focus.

  • I think it's great idea. Mobile Marketing is going to be a huge market in India and we ought to have Indian Chapter of Mobile Marketing Association (MMA). So that the voices of several upcoming Mobile Advertising startup like mKhoj
can be heard and a more balanced VAS industry can be formed.
