Indian Express Online Launches Classifieds Site In Beta

Indian Express Online has launched a classifieds site - expressclassifieds.in. The site is still in Beta, and underpopulated - there are currently just five cities listed, of which chandigarh has 4 listings, Ahmedabad has 1, while Delhi has 14. Pune and Mumbai are better off with 4339 and 686 listings respectively. The classifieds site covers business, matrimonials, vehicles, property, education, recruitment, “services”, computers and shopping. It seems to be an extension of their offline (print) listings. For posting an ad, one needs to sign in.

So which do you think works better - generic classifieds sites or specific sites? I don’t see much point in going to a generic classifieds site online - when I have the need to search for something online, I go to a specific site (like naukri.com for a job or shaadi.com for a wife), or a search engine. At the same time, a Craigslist, which many are attempting to emulate in India, is popular because of its legacy and the sheer number of listings. Other generic classifieds sites in this include space: Indialist.com, Sulekha Classifieds, Rediff Classifieds and kijiji.in

It looks like Content Sutra is becoming a junk site.  An article is written with no market knowledge and on top of that all other people immediately go and put their ads as comments.  God save content sutra.
