—Moser Baer has inked a couple of deals for content for their Home Video business: they’ve tied up with DQ Entertainment (DQE) for the distribution of two animated series - Pet Pals, targeting kids below 7, and Ratman, targeting kids between 7 and 11. The first two seasons of the series will be made available at Rs. 49 for CDs and Rs. 69 for DVDs. The other deal is with Palador Pictures for 50 world cinema titles, which will be priced at Rs. 399 each, distributed through Moser Baers 2000 retail outlets. So much for the piracy killing price point that Moser Baer was harping on…some of the titles like Kurosawa’s Yojimbo and Seven Samurai are available for Rs. 150 at Palika Bazaar…Palador, which has rights to around 1000 world cinema titles, needs to rethink its pricing.

—Music Today has tied up with STAR India, to offer 200 hours of TV shows on home video, reports Radio and Music. The India Today Group company has acquires rights to 26 episodes of Indian classical music performances, which have not been telecast yet, as well as cookery, travel and wellness shows belonging to the broadcaster. I wonder if the fan base of STAR’s most popular show - Balaji Telefilms’ Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi - is the kind that is willing to buy DVDs of seasons of the show.
