Govt Of India To Launch E-Commerce Platform On Tourism Site; Ties Up With Travel Portals, Hotels

The Ministry of Tourism of India has launched a new e-Commerce platform on its tourism website Incredible India, that apparently connects customers with travel agencies, tour operators, hotels and Bed & Breakfast (B&B) establishments. In terms of third party vendors, they’ve tied up with Desiya, TravelGuru, Yatra, Ezeego1, MakeMyTrip, EToursOnline, Indiatimes and Cleartrip, so far. Apart from them, around 4000 accommodation units - hotels, guest houses and B&B’s - have also signed up. International visitors represent 70 percent of the traffic for Incredible India.

As per the PIB release, Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni believes that medical tourism should also be covered by the ecommerce platform.

The Incredible India site (here’s a dead link, incidentally) just links to many sites for bookings, cruises etc, and some of the sites mentioned above aren’t listed yet. For hotel booking, a Federation of Hotels and Restaurants of India page pops up, with the disclaimer “We do not provide the facility of making reservation on behalf of our members”. No, I guess that e-commerce platform hasn’t been implemented yet, even though the release says it has been. Incredible India, indeed.

Update: It seems the tours and travels booking platform is hosted with Eviivo, here. There’s a flash banner at Incredible India that links to the booking site, and text links have not been updated, old links not removed.
