Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is in early stages of negotiations with Reliance Communications (RCom) to lease 500 GB bandwidth of group company Flag Telecom’s trans-Pacific undersea communications cable, reports Business Standard. Can’t be too certain of this report, though - at one point the story says that it’s a long term lease deal is estimated to be around $80-100 million, while at another ‘Flag Telecom will sell dark fibre to Google. This will help Google save the cost of duplicating a fibre optic network, which would cost around $350-380 million (Rs 1,400-1,500 crore)’. Yet another reported source says that the companies will be setting up ‘a joint cable under a “cooperative arrangement”’. Reliance has apparently declined to comment. More here.
