Globus, a fashion apparel retail chain which intends to open 130 stores in 70 Indian cities over the next five years intends to launch an e-commerce portal in October, reports Business Standard [via Alootechie]. Globus CEO Vinay Nadkarni says that “A section of the stores will be available on the portal.” If that means only some of the stores items will be available online - I find that disappointing. What should be interesting is whether the pricing will be different; traditionally, online stores offer goods cheaper online since they don’t have the additional expense of a retail outlet - only warehouse space. If the prices aren’t lower online, then there’s the opportunity for an online-only store to leverage lower costs and beat the likes of Globus on price.
