The number of visitors from India to social-networking site Facebook more than tripled to 785,000 in June 2007 from 238,000 in January, according to comScore data. [via agencyfaqs] Still, the number of Facebook registrants are merely 10 percent of Google-owned rival Orkut’s users in India. Orkut grew by a healthy 35 percent over the same period to clock 7.2 million unique visitors in June 2007. MySpace, at 399,000 unique visitors in June 2007, grew by 33 per cent over the six-month period. While the growth in Facebook’s popularity is notable, it still isn’t enough for it to be Orkut’s formidable rival in India. Indians constitute about 30 per cent of unique visitors on Orkut worldwide. On Facebook, they are a little over 1 per cent.
