Expedia India Launches Indian Ops
Expedia India has announced the launch of its India operations, with Sharat Dhall as its Managing Director. The site Expedia.co.in (Expedia.in redirects to it) is currently focusing on hotel bookings and travel deals. That’s a fairly limited segment—Cleartrip CEO Sandeep Murthy had said recently in an interview that the market for hotel booking is fairly small, and hotels haven’t taken off in a big way online. Expedia India plans add airline ticketing subsequently. On the hotel side they claim to list 80,000 hotels, mostly international.

I think these travel sites will see a nice big shakeout.. There is very little differentiation in product or service. Most of them are wooing members with promos.. How long can they sustain?
