Burrp Had Received Angel Funding From Network18 Group CEO Haresh Chawla
There’s a rumour doing the rounds that Web18 has invested in social media startup Burrp.com. We’ve confirmed from official Network18 sources that this is not true. However, we should have probably written about this earlier - Haresh Chawla, the Group CEO of Network18 (of which Web18 is a part) had provided angel investment to Burrp. We’ve confirmed this from our sources, and this is a fairly well known fact in Mumbai circles as well. This is just for the record. We also contacted Deap Ubhi, Founder and CEO of Burrp, who has declined to comment.
Burrp provides local information and user generated reviews of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafés etc; has TV listings and alerts, and a user created lifestyle focused zine called Blah.

if this rumor is true than isn’t it conflicting with Home Shop18 ( which is ,in a way TV channel of syndicated review ) and burrp is a UGC thing . UGC and Syndication can be conflicting at times .

well, like I’ve mentioned, the Web18 rumour is not true. The Haresh Chawla investment is a fact.
I dont think there’s any conflict with HomeShop18. There are a few areas of overlap between Burrp and Buzz18, since both feature lifestyle content.
There are more areas of conflict of interest between Network18 companies (Web18, Studio18) and Tangerine Digital, which has investment from Raghav Bahl and Capital18.

And there is Storeguru.com besides DEN ( Cable operations ) that is owned by Manchanda and Raghav Bahl. Here haresh does his proprietory investments . No one knows where does private treaties investment ( MobileNext etc ) lies. Lot of explanations to do.

I see no conflicts at all. People like stoking fire when nothing is there. Without knowing the whole story, how can one comment intelligently? All we can do is speculate. Burp is doing fantastic job while one should give them credit for being in the game for so long with defending market position

So much for rumours being served as news :-(
Long live professional blogging!
Infomedia18 informs us that Haresh Chawla is not a Burrp shareholder. Our apologies - we were told otherwise by highly placed sources
