BSNL is slated to launch a tele-education service for subscribers availing its broadband services. Under the service, BSNL will relay education programmes and provide study material for engineering, management, medical amongst others. The report states the service will be priced at Rs 250 per month. No word on if BSNL will be commissioning programming or syndicating content from Doordarshan, another state run entity. Although the report doesn’t explicitly state it, this seems like the launch of another channel over BSNL’s IPTV play, in conjunction with support activities conducted via tele. In that case, it will indirectly compete with another offering on DTH, namely, Greycell 18’s Topper.

Speaking of which, Topper has gone paid starting 1st August 2008. sets. As per our previous coverage, the site was slated to be free only until April 15, 2008.  The bundle, available for Rs 899 (exclusive of taxes) per year is already cheaper than BSNL’s to be launched initiative. That said, it’s not a fair comparison considering the content offerings are for different student sets.
