The battle between India’s two leading matrimonial portals, Bharatmatrimony.com and Shaadi.com, has curiously reached Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC), a body that usually checks monopolies in the market.
MRTPC in an order has restrained Bharatmatrimony.com from advertising success stories. BM had advertised through newspapers that it had eight times more success stories than its nearest rival (read Shaadi.com), which was opposed by Shaadi. The latter went to MRTPC.
MRTPC said in the order: “Petitioner has made a prima facie case that the claim made by respondent… is false and misrepresenting and disparaging to complainant.” The commission has also directed BM to file a reply in four weeks. The morale of the story: Don’t take pride in arranging marriages. [Via Business Standard]
