3D Solid Compression (3DSoC), based in Bangalore, has received an undisclosed amount of investment from IDG Ventures India. The company was incubated by Stanford University and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). 3DSoC is in the 3D content creation and visualization space and has developed a technology called VIS (Virtual Interactive Solid), which is a lightweight 3D representation, meaning it can be pushed over mobiles and online. These smaller files can be compressed by up to 100 times even with animation embedded in it. The company says its goal is to create a platform that enables easy creation of animated 3D models by a novice user.

VentureBeat: The challenge for 3DSoC will be getting companies and operating systems to install their viewing tools. To tackle the problem, 3DSoc is seeking partnerships with companies like IBM and Yahoo, as well as cell-phone manufacturers like Nokia.
